Night Guards for Bruxism

Bruxism means clenching or grinding the teeth, often during sleep. A night guard is a custom-fitted appliance that sits between the teeth while you sleep.

What a consultation may cover

  • Signs of wear on your teeth
  • Jaw soreness, headaches or clicking
  • Whether a partner hears grinding at night

What to expect

If a guard is recommended, impressions or scans of your teeth are taken so it can be made to fit. You'll be shown how to wear and clean it.

Things to know

A guard helps protect teeth from grinding forces but may not stop the grinding itself. Jaw problems may need other assessment.

Questions to ask your dentist

  • What signs of grinding do you see?
  • How do I care for the guard?
  • What if my jaw still aches?

General information, not medical advice. Your dentist can advise what suits you.
