Dental Sealants

Sealants are thin coatings painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth. They cover deep grooves where food and bacteria tend to collect.

What a consultation may cover

  • Which teeth have deep grooves
  • Whether existing sealants are still intact
  • Other ways to lower cavity risk

What to expect

The tooth is cleaned and dried, the sealant is painted on, and it's hardened in place. No drilling is usually needed for a healthy tooth.

Things to know

Sealants can wear or chip over time and are checked at regular visits. They protect the chewing surface, not between teeth.

Questions to ask your dentist
