Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a mineral that helps strengthen tooth enamel. A professional fluoride treatment applies it directly to the teeth as a varnish, gel or foam.

What a consultation may cover

  • Your risk of cavities
  • The fluoride you already get from toothpaste and water
  • Whether it is recommended for children in your family

What to expect

The fluoride is painted or placed on the teeth after a cleaning. You may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a short time afterwards.

Things to know

Fluoride helps protect enamel but can't repair a cavity that has already formed.

Questions to ask your dentist
