Oral Cancer Screenings

An oral cancer screening is a visual and physical check of your lips, tongue, cheeks, throat and neck for unusual patches, lumps or sores.

What a consultation may cover

  • Any sore or patch that hasn't healed
  • Tobacco or alcohol use
  • Changes in your voice or swallowing

What to expect

Your dentist looks and gently feels around your mouth and neck. It's usually part of a regular exam.

Things to know

A screening can't diagnose cancer. If something looks unusual, your dentist may suggest monitoring or a referral for further tests.

Questions to ask your dentist

  • Is anything you saw worth watching?
  • What should I look out for between visits?

General information, not medical advice. Your dentist can advise what suits you.
